Couples Therapy in Toronto & Online Across Ontario
Rebuild communication, trust, and connection — from the comfort of your own home
When the distance grows
Few things hurt like feeling far away from the person sitting right beside you. Maybe every conversation turns into the same argument. Maybe there are no arguments anymore — just silence, logistics, and two people running a household on parallel tracks. Maybe trust took a hit, or a season of stress, grief, or new parenthood has left you both depleted. Couples therapy is a place to interrupt those patterns before they harden — and it works best when it starts before things feel broken.
What brings couples to therapy
- Communication that keeps breaking down — criticism, defensiveness, shutting down
- The same fight on repeat, with no resolution
- Rebuilding trust after a betrayal or broken promise
- Feeling more like roommates than partners
- Big transitions — marriage, new baby, blended family, retirement, illness
- Differences over money, parenting, in-laws, faith, or intimacy
- Premarital preparation — building strong foundations early
How couples therapy helps
In our work together, the relationship is the client — my role is not to referee or take sides, but to help you both see the cycle you're caught in and step out of it together. We slow down the conversations that usually go sideways, so each of you can actually hear what the other is trying to say underneath the frustration. You'll practise concrete communication skills in session, then use them at home. Drawing on evidence-based approaches including Solution-Focused and Narrative therapy, we build on what already works between you — because even strained relationships have strengths worth growing.
For couples who share a faith, spiritual life can be woven into the work if you both wish — always optional, never assumed. Couples of all backgrounds and configurations are welcome.
What sessions look like
Couples sessions are 80 minutes — longer than individual sessions, because two people need room to be heard. Most couples join by secure video side by side from home, anywhere in Ontario; some join from separate locations when schedules demand it. Early sessions focus on understanding your patterns and what each of you needs; from there we agree on goals and work toward them at a pace that respects you both. Couples therapy is for adults 18 and over.
Fees and booking
Couples therapy is $210 for an 80-minute session. Psychotherapy provided by a Registered Psychotherapist is HST-exempt, and receipts are provided for extended health benefit (EHB) claims — some plans cover couples work under either partner's coverage. Payment is by Interac e-Transfer, PayPal, or secure online card payment.
Common questions
Does couples therapy work online? Yes — most couples join side by side from their own couch, and research shows online couples therapy is as effective as in-person for most concerns. Some couples find it easier to open up at home.
What if my partner is hesitant? Very common. Therapy isn't about blame or verdicts. Many hesitant partners find the first session far more comfortable than expected — willing to try is enough to begin.
Is what we share confidential? Yes — sessions are protected under PHIPA, with the standard legal exceptions we review together in the first session.
