Secure Online Therapy
PHIPA-compliant teletherapy for clients located in Ontario
Online Therapy Services in Ontario
Important Notice: Online therapy services are only available to clients physically located in Ontario at the time of their session. This is in accordance with the regulatory requirements of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
Teletherapy offers the same quality of care as in-person sessions with added convenience and accessibility. Whether you're managing a busy schedule, have mobility limitations, or simply prefer the comfort of your own space, online therapy provides a flexible option to receive professional mental health support.
Benefits of Online Therapy
- Convenience: Eliminate travel time and access therapy from your home or private space
- Accessibility: Receive support regardless of physical limitations or distance from my office
- Comfort: Engage in therapy from a familiar environment where you may feel more at ease
- Continuity: Maintain your therapy schedule during inclement weather or when traveling within Ontario
- Privacy: Some clients find it easier to open up without being physically present in an office
PHIPA-Compliant Secure Platform
All online sessions are conducted through a secure platform that prioritizes your privacy and confidentiality. I use:
Doxy.me
A healthcare-specific video platform designed for telemedicine that meets PHIPA requirements for privacy and security. Doxy.me offers end-to-end encryption, nothing is recorded, and no patient data is stored. There is nothing to install — you simply click your private room link.
Before your first online session, you'll receive detailed instructions on how to access the platform, test your connection, and ensure your privacy during sessions.
Setting Up for a Successful Teletherapy Session
To get the most out of your online therapy experience, I recommend:
- Finding a private, quiet space where you won't be overheard or interrupted
- Using a reliable internet connection (wired connections are typically more stable than Wi-Fi)
- Testing your camera and microphone before our session
- Having headphones available to improve audio quality and privacy
- Closing other programs or apps that might use bandwidth or cause notifications
- Considering lighting so that we can see each other clearly
Insurance Coverage for Teletherapy
Most extended health insurance plans in Ontario that cover psychotherapy services also cover teletherapy sessions. I provide receipts for teletherapy sessions that include all necessary information for insurance claims, including my CRPO registration number and service details.
Is Teletherapy Right for You?
While online therapy is effective for many concerns, there are situations where in-person therapy may be more appropriate. During our initial consultation, we'll discuss your specific circumstances and determine the best approach for your needs.
If you're experiencing a crisis or require immediate support, please call 911 or 9-8-8 (Canada's Suicide Crisis Helpline), or visit your nearest emergency room.
