Burnout Recovery Therapy in Toronto & Online Across Ontario
For when rest doesn't restore you anymore — practical help to refill the tank and rebuild your life around what matters
Running on empty
Burnout doesn't arrive overnight. It creeps in while you're being responsible — taking the extra shift, answering one more email, holding the family together, showing up for everyone. Then one day you notice the weekend doesn't fix you anymore. Work you used to care about feels pointless. You're short with people you love, foggy in meetings, and tired in a way sleep doesn't touch. That's not weakness, and it's not laziness. It's burnout — and it responds to the right kind of help.
What burnout can look like
- Exhaustion that rest doesn't repair — physical, mental, and emotional
- Growing cynicism or detachment from work you once cared about
- Brain fog: simple tasks take twice the effort, focus keeps slipping
- A shorter fuse — snapping at colleagues, kids, or your partner
- Feeling ineffective no matter how many hours you put in
- Headaches, poor sleep, frequent illness — your body keeping the score
Burnout is especially common in caring and high-demand roles — healthcare workers, teachers, first responders, ministry leaders, managers, and anyone parenting or caregiving on top of a full plate.
How burnout therapy helps
Recovery is not about becoming more resilient so you can absorb more. It starts with triage: restoring sleep, protecting non-negotiable recovery time, and subtracting what can be subtracted. From there, using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), we look at the thinking patterns that quietly feed burnout — perfectionism, guilt about resting, the belief that everything depends on you. Solution-Focused Therapy helps us rebuild forward: what does a sustainable week actually look like for you, and what's the smallest step toward it this week?
We also reconnect you with your values — because burnout often means you've been spending energy on demands that drifted far from what matters to you. For clients who wish, faith and spirituality can be part of that conversation, always at your invitation.
What sessions look like
Sessions are 50 minutes by secure, PHIPA-compliant video — no commute to add to your load. You can meet from home, or anywhere private, anywhere in Ontario. We set a recovery plan early, practise the tools between sessions, and review progress together so the work stays practical. I work with adults and adolescents.
If burnout has you lying awake with a racing mind, the anxiety therapy page and this recent article — Five Signs It's Burnout (Not Just a Bad Month) — may also help.
Fees and booking
Individual therapy is $170 for a 50-minute session. Psychotherapy provided by a Registered Psychotherapist is HST-exempt, and receipts are provided for extended health benefit (EHB) claims. Payment is by Interac e-Transfer, PayPal, or secure online card payment.
Common questions
Is it burnout or depression? They can look alike and can overlap. Burnout is usually tied to a role — work, caregiving, ministry — and eases somewhat when you step away; depression tends to follow you everywhere. We'll take time to understand which is present, because the path forward differs.
Can I recover without quitting my job? Often, yes. Recovery usually begins with sleep, boundaries, and subtraction — and if a role change does come, it comes from clarity, not collapse.
How long does recovery take? Many people feel early relief within a few sessions; rebuilding energy and engagement typically unfolds over a few months.
